"No thanks" – Arsenal fans disagree with Lauren on Alexis Sanchez returning

[ad_pod ]

Over the years Arsenal fans have had to endure watching some of their finest players leave the club for their greatest rivals.

The likes of Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor all left the Gunners in pursuit of more ambitious ventures with the North London club constantly having to rebuild and reorganise after such high profile departures.

The latest to leave in this manner was Alexis Sanchez, who signed for Manchester United in January 2018.

Rumours of Sanchez’s desire to leave the club had been circling for months after a collapsed move to Manchester City saw him stay at Arsenal for a further five months before he eventually made his move to Old Trafford.

The Chilean has had a torrid time in Manchester, struggling to make any impact in a team that’s been in decline under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite a few months of improvement with the Norwegian at the helm.

Sanchez may move again this summer and former Arsenal invincible Lauren has been quoted as saying that the Chilean can still have an impact in North London if he were to return one day. But despite the comments coming from a club icon, Gunners fans haven’t welcomed the idea of re-signing their ex-star.

The Chalkboard: Matt Polster will have a massive opportunity if Rangers bite on Tavernier interest

[ad_pod ]

Football Insider have reported on Thursday that Aston Villa are set to ramp up their interest in Rangers captain James Tavernier.

The outlet reckon that now promotion to the English Premier League has been achieved, the Villans are ready to make an approach for the right-back, having kept tabs on his progress at Ibrox.

Tavernier has become almost indispensable at the club and selling him remains a bad idea from Rangers’ perspective, but manager Steven Gerrard admitted recently that ‘every player has his price’ when discussing potential interest in the 27-year-old.

It means that decision makers at Ibrox may receive an offer too good to turn down and the Gers boss must have one eye on what his team might look like in Tavernier’s absence.

Is anyone at the club capable of stepping up and filling his boots?

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

On the chalkboard

The most obvious candidate to replace Tavernier in the event of his departure is January signing Matt Polster, who arrived from MLS outfit Chicago Fire.

To date he’s only managed three minutes of action in a Rangers shirt, but does have decent experience and was signed specifically as back-up for Tavernier, despite the presence of Jon Flanagan at the club already.

The fact he has played plenty of games in midfield as well as right-back for Chicago Fire is evidence he is very comfortable on the ball and can perhaps be that driving right flank force that Tavernier has been at Ibrox for years now.

His lack of action at the club to date is a little bit of a concern for Rangers supporters, but that’s as much to do with making the transition from life in America to life in Scotland.

What’s Gerrard said?

Intriguingly Gerrard seems to be a big fan of the defender, despite his lack of playing time, and has hinted he could play a big role in the team in the months to come.

As quoted by The Evening Express, the Gers boss said in April:

It is a big, big change for him so we had to get him used to the dressing room, get him used to Rangers and the pressure of Rangers.

He has settled down really well, has performed really well in the reserve team and the idea was always to get him in before the end of the season and then get a strong pre-season into him to get him ready for next year.

He is a good player – I think he might surprise a few.

Coupled with his comments on Tavernier’s potential departure earlier this week, is the Rangers manager already eyeing Polster to fit in and make Rangers fans forget all about their captain?

If the right-back does move on, Polster could have a massive opportunity to cement himself in the team and build a successful Rangers career.

Tottenham have to accept any Man United bid for Eric Dier

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United have made an approach to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier, per Football Insider.

What’s the word?

Dier has endured a difficult season but the report claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring the England international to Old Trafford.

The report claims that United were interested in the defensive midfielder two years ago but have now reignited their interest, as they feel that Spurs will be more likely to acquiesce to his sale this summer.

The 25-year-old is also capable of playing across the backline, at both centre-back and right-back, and Solskjaer is said to believe that he is “hugely under-rated”, per Football Insider.

Snap their hand off

Spurs need to move Dier on.

The midfielder has been in rancid form this season, struggling with injuries and playing poorly whenever he has been in the team.

He was left out of the starting XI for the Champions League final against Liverpool and with good reason.

Per WhoScored, he makes just 1.3 tackles per game in the Premier League, while he is dribbled past 1.4 times. Thus, he is beaten more often than he wins the ball back.

It is difficult to imagine how he fits into United’s midfield; he is no better than Nemanja Matic and is actually more immobile.

When it comes to Spurs, though, that isn’t their problem and they should make every effort to ensure United formalise their interest with a concrete bid.

This may be their last chance to extract a big fee for a player who is clearly on a major downswing.

Arsenal: Lorenzo Pellegrini ideal to a counter-attacking system

Arsenal are in hot pursuit of highly-rated Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini to replace outbound Aaron Ramsey.

According to journalist Nicholas Schira, the Gunners are working on a deal to bring in Roma ace Pellegrini this summer.

In light of Ramsey’s departure, Arsenal’s midfield is lacking real box-to-box, attacking impetus and the Italian could well be the man to fill the void this summer after another successful season with I Giallorossi, in which he made 33 appearances in all competitions and contributed an impressive one goal and three Champions League assists in six matches (as per Transfermarkt).

Without wanting to drag through statistics too much, Pellegrini dominates Arsenal’s former servant in almost every department, according to WhoScored. Pellegrini managed on average 2.4 key passes per game while Ramsey sits on a solemn 0.9. In addition, the Italian makes about 33.9 passes per game again trumping Ramsey’s 27.6 and though Juventus’ inbound maestro ranks higher in pass success percentage, 82 percent compared to 80, we’d argue it to be a negligible difference.

ESPN’s scouting report back in 2018 noted the Roman for his ability to drive forward from midfield and help his side launch counter-attacks, tools that will be missing in the Gunners’ engine room without the departing Welshman. Obviously, he might not have been as prolific as Ramsey over the course of his career, but those kind of traits would plug a gap in their squad.

Indeed, some of the club’s best performances under Unai Emery have been while operating as more of a counter-attacking team rather than the kind of possession-based football Arsene Wenger had so long championed North London, with the Telegraph noting that this set-up against Tottenham at Wembley was a refreshing sight.

Arsenal have lacked creative spark in the centre since Ramsey went missing through injury and January loan signing Denis Suarez, the man introduced to add a bit of something, disappointed fans in almost every department – leaving without a single goal or assist in 95 minutes of football.

Arsenal fans, what do you think about signing Lorenzo Pellegrini? Do you think he could fill the void left by Ramsey? Let us know in the comments below…

Jesse Lingard and Alexandre Lacazette respond to Danny Welbeck’s Instagram post

Danny Welbeck has had a really unlucky season at Arsenal. Ridden with injuries, this 28-year-old centre-forward only managed eight appearances in the Premier League, scoring and assisting once in the process.

But, as was also quite expected, Arsenal released the English forward 10 days ago when his contract was confirmed to have expired. Still, it seems that that didn’t affect his good spirits as Welbeck posted an

/Byp9QhVHD0m/” data-lasso->Instagram snap of his holiday trip to the seaside.

Naturally, his ex-teammates and friends were quick to jump to make some quality banter content as well as showing their love for Welbeck. Alexandre Lacazette posted a series of emojis to his ex-teammate, showing his love for the Englishman.

Jesse Lingard, his compatriot and rival on the pitch, also took to Instagram to reply but in a more banter-like manner, teasing Welbeck that vitamin D, in fact, stands for Daniel.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah urged to join Barcelona by Samuel Eto’o

[ad_pod ]

Former Everton striker Samuel Eto’o has urged Mohamed Salah to join Barcelona this summer after he had his say on the future of Liverpool’s star man.

What’s he said?

Salah has been nothing short of a revelation since arriving in Merseyside and he cemented himself as one of their best players by scoring 22 Premier League goals last term.

The Egyptian forward is now playing at the African Cup of Nations but despite his country getting off to a winning start in the tournament, Salah failed to find the net.

It’s a competition that Eto’o has a rich history in, having won the trophy in 2000 and 2002.

The ex-Cameroon striker knows what it takes to succeed in La Liga too and after scoring 130 goals in 199 Barcelona appearances, has now urged Salah to join his old club.

In quotes relaid by the BBC, he explained that Barcelona fit the 27-year-old’s style of play and if he has the chance, should choose them over Real Madrid. He commented:

“Barcelona would be a better fit. Real gave me the opportunity to leave Africa but I know Barcelona’s style and I think it would be better for him.

“If he has the chance to play in the best league of the world, which is the Spanish one, he has to sign for Barcelona.”

Will a move happen?

It’s hard to take Eto’o comments at face value as a transfer this summer seems unlikely given Salah has recently just won the Champions League with Liverpool.

But if you consider the 71 goals he’s scored for the club in just two years, it’s not difficult to argue against that he has what it takes to play for a club such as Barcelona.

The way he cuts inside and runs at defenders is arguably similar to Lionel Messi and therefore his style of play definitely matches up with the Catalan club.

Salah is phenomenal at beating defenders and highly skilled dribblers appear to flourish in Spain.

You only need to reflect upon the quality Messi has and what Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar brought to La Liga in more recent times as well.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

Eto’o is right to suggest he should join Barcelona over Real Madrid. After all they’ve just signed Eden Hazard, so the possibility of trying to bring a player rated at £135m to the club doesn’t seem feasible.

Barcelona would certainly be the right fit if they ever came calling for the Liverpool man.

Tottenham: Kyle Walker-Peters could replace Kieran Trippier next season

Kieran Trippier’s future at Tottenham Hotspur looks far from assured at the moment, however, that could give Kyle Walker-Peters the opportunity he needs to establish himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team.

The transfer rumour mill has been spinning vigorously when it comes down to Trippier, as the Independent have carried claims that Spurs are expecting a bid from Juventus in the near future and are prepared to accept an offer in the region of £25million should the Old Lady make an approach.

So, for all intents and purposes and for the benefit of this article, let’s assume that the England international is sold and leaves Tottenham with a decision to make. Do they look to sign a new right-back or do they look to promote from within?

Hiroki Sakai has been recently linked with a move to the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however, being 29-years-old does not work in the Japan international’s favour as it is thought to go against everything Pochettino and Spurs are looking for in new recruits – the younger the better moving forward supposedly.

So, with Serge Aurier having hardly filled himself with glory in the opportunities he has had during his two-year stint at the club, could that mean Walker-Peters gets a chance to shine? Maybe.

According to a report by Football.London, the young right-back is set to meet with Pochettino about his future at the club next month in discussions that could shape what happens to the 22-year-old further down the line.

But, surely it would not be a surprise to see him in the line-up next season? He did get a chance in the first-team last year and did rather well with all things considered – he made a rather glaring error against Barcelona allowing Ousmane Dembele to score but perhaps the occasion got to him? He did recover well though in the game after putting the gaffe behind him.

According to his stats by WhoScored, in the six appearances he made in the Premier League, he averaged 1.2 tackles per game and 0.7 interceptions. Compared to Trippier’s 2.5 tackles and 0.9 interceptions in 27 top-flight matches, that’s not too bad.

Both men are attack-minded as well and Walker-Peters continued to show that he could become a threat in the future with the right development as he managed to provide three assists with an average of 1.2 key passes and 1.5 successful dribbles per outing.

There is no denying that the 22-year-old is still a diamond in the rough and Pochettino will need to work his magic with him for a little bit to get the best out of him, however, he could perhaps be the replacement Spurs will need should Trippier leave this summer, or even challenge him for his place should the England international remain at the club instead.

Tottenham fans, do you think Walker-Peters has what it takes to step up to the next level? Let us know your thoughts below!

West Ham fans don’t want Marega

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United fans don’t want the club to sign Moussa Marega from Porto this summer.

A fan account, titled West Ham Fan Zone, has asked supporters to give their opinions on the Mali international after reports emerged over the weekend claiming that he could move to the Irons.

Indeed, ClaretandHugh have reported that Marega is a back-up option for the club as they look to recruit some more firepower in the summer transfer window.

Football FanCast understands that Maxi Gomez is a key target for the club and that Director of Football Mario Husillos is in negotiations with Celta over a deal.

But Marega remains on the club’s shortlist as a potential option, though he would cost around £31m.

Celtic fans enjoyed Kristoffer Ajer’s performance in an unfamiliar position

[ad_pod ]

Celtic central defender Kristoffer Ajer was tasked with playing at right-back on Tuesday night, but came through the match with a big thumbs up from supporters.

After the exits of Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa, the only recognised right-back at the club right now is Anthony Ralston, who lacks the experience to be relied upon in big European matches, making just ten starts in Celtic colours to date.

Keith from C’mon the Hoops throws back to a true Celtic icon in the video below…

Manager Neil Lennon turned to Ajer for the season-opening test away to FK Sarajevo, with the Norwegian international having played in the position just a handful of times in his career so far.

With solid tackling and the odd marauding run though, he looked like a good option on the right flank, certainly doing enough to hold his head up as one of the key performers in the 3-1 win.

Spurs fans excited over shock Dani Alves links

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans are excited over the prospect of signing Dani Alves on a free transfer this summer.

Duncan Castles, the Daily Record journalist, claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast that Spurs had entered into talks over the possible acquisition of the Brazil international.

Alves left PSG at the end of the season and is available to sign without a transfer fee this summer.

Castles claims that Spurs could sell both Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier in this transfer window and Alves could become the club’s third signing of the summer, after Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke arrived from Lyon and Leeds United respectively.
