TIGRE BUSCA A VIRADA NO 2º TEMPO

According to the , Inter are reportedly willing to sell Calhanoglu if an offer of at least €40m (£34m/$46m) comes in, with Galatasaray and Saudi Pro League clubs leading the chase. Meanwhile, Frattesi has changed his stance on leaving the club after being reassured by new manager Cristian Chivu that he will be central to next season's plans.

Calhanoglu has been a core player at Inter, but concerns over his fitness and consistency combined with growing interest from abroad could make this the right time to cash in. Inter are planning a midfield refresh, and moving on from the 31-year-old could free up both funds and space. In contrast, Frattesi’s decision to stay adds stability to the club's evolving midfield.

DID YOU KNOW?

Bayern Munich had shown interest in Calhanoglu last summer, but the Turkish international opted to stay. Frattesi, despite limited starts, has logged significant minutes over the last two seasons and was on several Serie A clubs' radar in January.

TFG must axe "struggling" Everton star who's cost over £26m in wages

Everton are gearing up for investment in the transfer market this summer, with David Moyes’ impressive return to Goodison Park stabilising the club after many turbulent years.

But things are still changing. The Toffees will drape the curtain on their long and distinguished history at Goodison this summer, moving to the new and fashionable Bramley Moore.

It’s a seismic leap, but one fans hope will advance the club’s restoration. New owners, The Friedkin Group, are reported to have promised Moyes he will be granted significant transfer powers this summer, and he may even be prepared to rock the boat a little (per The i Paper).

Everton managerDavidMoyesbefore the match

So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at how Everton might look on new turf next season.

How Everton's squad is shaping up for Bramley Moore

Everton are set to part ways with no less than 15 first-team players this summer, a staggering number though one which is contextualised by the inclusion of players out on loan, such as Mason Holgate and the notorious Neal Maupay, and loanees such as Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom.

By and large, Everton’s soon-to-depart cohort consists of twilit players. Abdoulaye Doucoure, Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young and Asmir Begovic illustrate that point.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract is also up for expiry. Beto’s fine form under Moyes’ wing attenuated the need for a new striker this season, but with Armando Broja’s buy clause unlikely to be activated after an injury-blotted season, fresh firepower will be needed at number nine.

What, then, sits as the first port of call for Moyes and inbound Director of Football Angus Kinnear, who will leave Leeds United at the end of the season?

The door is wide open for incomings. Alongside Charly Alcaraz, whose purchase option will surely be activated, the rumour mill is beginning to speed up. The Blues have been reliably linked by Sky Sports with Sunderland talent Chris Rigg.

Lastly, there’s a growing sense that Jarrad Branthwaite is tempted by a move away from Merseyside. However, the Toffees are understood (via the earlier iNews report) to hope to initiate talks for a fresh deal to ward off suitors.

Everton must part with "struggling" star

If Branthwaite were to leave, it may feel like a pragmatic move to tie Michael Keane down to an extension, but this would actually be a move of stagnancy, maybe regression.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

In either scenario, Keane is ageing and approaching the final few months of his contract, having fallen into the realm of insignificance over the past several years.

Everton signed Keane from Sean Dyche’s Burnley in a deal rising to a club-record-equalling £30m in 2017, part of a summer splurge after Farhad Moshiri first appeared on the scene.

He’s paid his due, for sure, but Keane’s deficiencies have been glaring in recent years.

Branthwaite was out injured for the opening weeks of the campaign, and so Keane deputised alongside James Tarkowski in his stead.

When comparing the respective metrics across the 2024/25 campaign, it becomes clear Keane is dramatically outstripped by his younger peer in relation to defensive security. To his credit, he does have a shrewd eye for goal.

Failing to match Branthwaite isn’t of itself to Keane’s detriment, but he’s long been at odds with fans’ satisfaction, with talkSPORT pundit Terry Groves even commenting that he’s “always struggling.”

Everton centre-back Michael Keane looks dejected

As per FBref, the dormant England international ranks among the bottom 18% of Premier League defenders this season for pass completion and the bottom 1% for progressive passes per 90.

While Everton hardly enforce possession-centric football, Keane has failed to uphold even the most rudimentary of ball-playing games. Branthwaite, by comparison, ranks among the bottom 21% of divisional defenders for progressive passes per 90, which is of course still low but indicates more initiative and enterprise on the ball.

And when considering the fact that he earns about £80k per week for the Blues, it becomes very clear that Keane needs to leave when his contract is up this summer.

Considering this, Keane has actually cost Everton more than £26m in wages since arriving from Burnley way back when. Though he’s made 226 appearances for the Toffees across his stay, his positive impact has been nominal in recent years, and it’s the right time to move on.

Everton defender Michael Keane

It’s been an eight-year stay at Goodison for this veteran, but his expiration will coincide with that of the club’s hallowed stomping ground. It’s for the best.

With West Ham United’s Vladimir Coufal on Everton’s radar as he nears the end of his contract at the London Stadium, Jake O’Brien may well find a more permanent home at centre-back, thus mitigating Keane’s potential departure. There would also, for sure, be a central fresh face brought in to deepen the ranks.

West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal.

Keane still has gas left in the tank at 32 but certainly hasn’t proved in recent years that he is worthy of playing a significant part in the coming era.

Everton need to act with firm intent in the coming months; parting with Keane and replacing him with a younger, more exciting talent would issue a statement to hungry fans: this is a new era, and sights are set on lofty goals.

Celtic had McCowan 2.0 in "phenomenal" star, then Rodgers sold him for £2m

As Steve Clarke announced his latest Scotland squad earlier this week, there was a notable omission from a Celtic point of view – Luke McCowan.

The £1m summer signing from Dundee was not included for the upcoming March internationals, with Clarke opting to continue with the likes of Ryan Christie, Billy Gilmour, John McGinn et al in what is an undoubtedly strong area for the national side.

While the competition in the midfield ranks is fierce, a few eyebrows have been raised by McCowan’s exclusion, with the 27-year-old Hoops star still waiting for that elusive first call-up.

One-time Celtic man Simon Donnelly was among those to suggest that the playmaker was “unfortunate” to miss out, albeit with the player himself having stated that earning a place in Clarke’s squad was “maybe not a target this season”.

It would be fair to say that the former Ayr United man hasn’t exactly set the world alight since moving to Parkhead, although he has shown flickers that he can be a key figure moving forward, both for his country and for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Why Luke McCowan hasn't been called up by Scotland

As stated, with Rodgers settling on a starting midfield trio of Arne Engels, Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor, McCowan has had to bid his time this season.

That said, when he has been given the nod, the midfield maestro has showcased what he’s all about, chalking up six goals and six assists in 31 games in all competitions in his new surroundings – only 12 of which have come from the start.

To put that into context, among those selected ahead of McCowan by Clarke is Motherwell’s teen sensation, Lennon Miller, albeit with the 18-year-old only chipping in with four goals and six assists at Fir Park.

Miller, due to his youth, will be viewed as the greater long-term investment for the Tartan Army, yet when factoring in that McCowan has 21 goals and assists in total this term, including his early season form for Dundee, the Celtic man may have reason to be frustrated.

Described as the “missing link” in the Hoops side by writer Ryan McGinlay, the task for the tricky left-footer now will be to oust the likes of Hatate and Engels from Rodgers’ go-to side, not just to improve his standing at club level, but also on the international scene.

Indeed, the playmaker may be fearful of going the same way of another homegrown star signed by Celtic in recent times, with David Turnbull’s career having stuttered of late.

Celtic already sold the original Luke McCowan

Prising talents from within Scottish football has long been a route to success for the Old Firm side, be it landing Stuart Armstrong from Dundee United, or the aforementioned Christie from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Where Are They Now

That trend looked set to continue with the capture of Turnbull from Motherwell back in August 2020, with the promising midfielder joining 14 months on from seeing the move collapse after requiring knee surgery.

Much like McCowan – who racked up 47 goals and assists in 125 games for his former employers – the £3.25m man had proven himself in Scottish football prior to making the switch, after contributing to 23 goals in just 41 games for Well.

At times looking “phenomenal”, in the words of pundit Alan Hutton, the five-cap Scotland international did rack up over ten goals and assists in the Premiership in each of his three full seasons in Glasgow.

That said, his face never seemingly fit under Ange Postecoglou, enduring what teammate Matt O’Riley described as a “rough year” in 2022/23, in which he started only six league games.

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull.

That was followed by just nine league starts at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, yielding seven goals, before Turnbull – who was approaching the end of his contract at the time – was sold on by Rodgers and co for just £2m to Cardiff City in January 2024.

The now 25-year-old said at the time of the move that his “aim” was to get back into the Scotland frame, although a year one from making that switch, he appears no closer to a recall, having scored only once and provided only one assist in 29 games for the Bluebirds.

Sadly, Turnbull has been out since December after enduring what looks to be a ‘long-term’ injury blow, with the move to South Wales having thus far failed to pan out.

As for his time at Celtic, the former Motherwell man did showcase a real goalscoring instinct, although simply found himself overtaken by the likes of Hatate and Matt O’Riley in the midfield pecking order.

McCowan, therefore, must ensure he doesn’t also remain shackled to the periphery…

Ibrahim, Farooqi, Naib lead Afghanistan to comfortable win

Ibrahim Zadran struck 106 as Afghanistan’s top order set them up for a commanding 294 for 8, before the bowlers – Fazalhaq Farooqi, Yamin Ahmadzai, and Gulbadin Naib – ripped through Sri Lanka’s batting order, sharing nine wickets between them.Sri Lanka provided some resistance, primarily through Pathum Nissanka, who kept the score moving in the early overs while wickets fell around him, and later through Wanindu Hasaranga, who was in scintillating batting form, even as he ran out of partners. But Afghanistan’s seamers had done too much damage. The margin of victory was a gaping 60 runs, Sri Lanka having been thoroughly outplayed on home turf. They never really seemed to have the measure of this big chase. The loss now makes Sri Lanka’s automatic qualification into next year’s ODI World Cup even more unlikely, as they have only 62 points on the Super League table (which leaves them at 10th, with only the top eight qualifying), with just five matches to go. Afghanistan, meanwhile, take a big step towards sealing their World Cup place, with 110 points now (they are seventh), and plenty of games to play. Before the quicks dismantled Sri Lanka’s top order, Afghanistan had laid a mighty platform. On a Pallekele surface that had decent pace and carry, but not a lot of turn, Afghanistan were rarely troubled by Sri Lanka’s seamers, in the first 40 overs at least. In addition to Ibrahim’s century, Afghanistan had half-centuries from Gurbaz, who hit 53 off 55, and Rahmat who made 52 off 64. The opening partnership was worth 84 off 88 balls; the second-wicket stand 118 off 141. After 38 overs, they were 202 for 8.They didn’t quite nail the finish, even after Najibullah Zadran had them flying into the death overs with his 25-ball 42 that featured a six and five fours. But 295 was always going to be a tough target.Where Gurbaz had had a little fortune, having been dropped at slip in the fifth over (by Dhananjaya de Silva, off the bowling of Kasun Rajitha), Ibrahim’s innings was chanceless. His first boundary was a sweetly-struck drive that went wide of mid-off, but he really got into it against Rajitha in the seventh over, crashing him square through the legside off successive deliveries.Gurbaz was more aggressive through the powerplay, but Ibrahim was perhaps better through the middle overs, finding risk-free singles all around the wicket as he worked his way conscientiously to a 62-ball fifty. That milestone came up in the 24th over; he had not added to his boundary tally since the ninth.Gulbadin Naib finished with figures of 8-0-34-3•AFP/Getty Images

There was one edge off Lahiru Kumara that flew past the keeper when he was on 55, but otherwise, the progress to triple figures was pretty smooth too. He got there not long after Rahmat – who had also accumulated nicely through the middle overs – departed, getting to the milestone with a swivel-pulled four off Kumara, off the 116th delivery he faced. He holed out against the bowling of Maheesh Theekshana in the 42nd over.Sri Lanka pulled a little back through the death, conceding only 31 runs in the last five overs, in which they also claimed five wickets. This was largely down to Rajitha, whose last three overs cost only 12 runs. But Afghanistan had gained too much ground in the first 45.The response was nervy from the early overs. Nissanka was given lbw but was saved by a review, in the third over. Next over, Kusal Mendis also reviewed an lbw decision against him off the bowling of Ahmadzai, but was unsuccessful. Dinesh Chandimal struck some nice boundaries, but was bowled by Farooqi in the seventh over. De Silva struck some even nicer boundaries, but was bowled by Gulbadin, off the inside edge, in the 11th.Sri Lanka were well ahead of the required rate, but were 75 for 3. Then 90 for 4 when Gulbadin had Asalanka edging to slip. Then 137 for 5 when Dasun Shanaka holed out to deep midwicket off the same bowler. They just kept losing wickets, though the required rate never climbed to unmanageable levels. Nissanka was out for an excellent 85 off 83 balls, edging Farooqi back on to his stumps. Dhananjaya Lakshan was bowled by a Farooqi yorker soon after. This was all a shame, because Hasaranga was starting to go nuts. In the 31st over, bowled by Mohammad Nabi, Hasaranga banged a six over long off first ball, faced a dot, then cracked four consecutive fours through the offside to take 22 off the over. He kept finding the boundary, but Afghanistan kept finding wickets.By the end, Hasaranga was turning down singles to keep the strike, but even what little balls the tailenders had to face, they did not deal with particularly well. Hasaranga was bowled for 66 off 46 at the end of the 38th over, ending Sri Lanka’s innings.By that same stage, Afghanistan had lost only a single wicket.

Jenas was axed from his job at the BBC and saw his marriage collapse due to a sexting scandal in 2024. The former midfielder lost his job after sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues and subsequently admitted he "had a problem." Jenas and Penfold then announced they were splitting after 16 years together in March. The couple share four children and Jenas has admitted he was desperate to stay with his wife so that he could keep their family together.

He told the Filthy Fellas podcast: "It was her decision and one that I had to accept. If it was up to me – and I think a lot of men are like this – I'd probably be prepared to be unhappy for the rest of my life if [it meant] I had my kids in it. If I have my kids, I'm quite happy to sacrifice. It's a man thing. Relationships are what they are – they have highs, they have lows and people cheat – some people do, some people don't, but you figure a lot of things out. The reality is we both were in a position where we were like 'are we really happy?' From her side of things, she'd ran the course more than probably me. But I was much more happy to go 'I'll be unhappy if I can stay in this house with you and these kids'. It wasn't to be for her, so we went our separate ways and that is that."

Jenas also spoke about why the couple eventually decided to part ways, adding: "The reality is, me and my wife haven't split up because I sent some text messages to some people at work. We had issues for a period of time, it all comes to a head and you eventually make a decision to say, as adults, we will be better parents for our children if we just remain friends and that's it."

Lancashire tower in Blackpool as Keaton Jennings sets new heights

Tough on Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay who make hundreds in opening stand of 198

ECB Reporters Network19-Aug-2022Lancashire’s batsmen mounted the highest successful run-chase in their county’s illustrious List A history to defeat Northamptonshire Steelbacks on a sun-soaked, run-stuffed day at Blackpool.Replying to their opponents 370 for four, Northamptonshire’s second-highest List A total, Lancashire got home with 10 balls to spare, thanks to a century from their skipper, Keaton Jennings, and a nerveless 61 not out off 34 balls by George Lavelle. However, defeat was hard on the Northamptonshire openers, Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay, both of whom made centuries in what was a magnificent game of List A cricket.Unsurprisingly the Steelbacks’ innings was dominated by Vasconcelos and Gay, whose 198-run stand set a first-wicket record for Northamptonshire against Lancashire in List A cricket.Related

Vasconcelos was quick to punish anything short of a length and reached three figures off 89 balls with nine fours and three sixes. By contrast, Gay’s driving was a particular delight and he got to his maiden List A century off 94 balls.Despite their best efforts, Lancashire’s bowlers were unthreatening and it was fitting that the first wicket was a run out when Gay sent Vasconcelos back and the South African opener was beaten by Steven Croft’s throw from square leg. Will Young and Saif Zaib made useful twenties before both batsmen were caught at deep square leg by Rob Jones, George Balderson and Danny Lamb being the successful bowlers. Four balls after Zaib’s departure, Gay was run out for 131 by Luke Wells’s direct hit from cover, leaving the Steelbacks on 304 for four after 41.3 overs. Those wickets deprived the Steelbacks innings of a little of its impetus but Lewis McManus hit four sixes in his 44 not out to ensure that Northamptonshire reached their highest List A total against Lancashire, who conceded their third-highest total in this format. Lamb, who took one for 64 from his ten overs was the pick of the home attack. most members of which were roughly treated on a superb batting pitch. But Northamptonshire’s bowlers found things no easier against the in-form openers, Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells, who put on 130 in 16 overs before Wells was caught at long off for 84 by the substitute fielder Harry Gouldstone off Saif Zaib.Wells had been particularly severe on Freddie Heldreich, hitting the left-arm wrist spinner for three sixes in one over, but Zaib maintained a degree of control and took the second wicket when he caught and bowled Josh Bohannon for 26, thus ending the Boltonian’s 72-run second-wicket stand with Jennings.Lancashire’s efforts to accelerate were further hampered by the loss of Steven Croft, caught and bowled by Alex Russell for 13, and Rob Jones, caught behind by McManus off Sales for eight, but the crucial blow seemed to have been struck when Jennings, having reached an 86-ball hundred was briliantly caught on the deep midwicket boundary by Gay off Sales for 125.But Lavelle was joined by George Balderson and the pair’s 82-run stand for the sixth wicket was vital in securing one of Lancashire’s most memorable victories. The win also confirms the home side’s place in the knockout stages of the Royal London Cup.

He’s better than Kolo Muani: Man Utd plot £30m move for "the new Gyokeres"

Manchester United’s need for a new striker has become even more evident after the last few outings, none more so than the meeting with Arsenal in the FA Cup on Sunday evening.

Although the Red Devils managed to get through on penalties in the clash at the Emirates, their lack of threat in the final third was notable, only managing to register four shots on target in 120 minutes of football.

Rasmus Hojlund was the man chosen to lead the line but failed to register a single effort on goal, also losing 100% of his duels, before being replaced in the 80th minute.

The Dane has now failed to score a single goal in seven matches across all competitions, undoubtedly contributing to the club’s lowly tally of just 23 goals in the first 20 matches of the Premier League campaign.

His subsequent run could see the hierarchy delve into the transfer market to try and improve the current situation, including one player who could prove to be a bargain down the line.

Man Utd target move for £30m star this January

According to one Spanish outlet, United have been credited with an interest in landing Sporting CP striker Conrad Harder before the end of the January window.

The 19-year-old only joined the Portuguese side in September but has wasted no time in impressing, scoring seven times in 23 appearances since his move.

The report states that the Liga Portugal side don’t want to lose the youngster, but could entertain offers in the region of €35m (£30m), potentially opening the door to a move to Old Trafford.

It would be a surprise to see Ruben Amorim raid his former club after his comments upon taking the reins at United, but Harder could provide an option in the short and long term in forward areas.

He would also provide an upgrade on another player who’s been touted with a move to the club in recent days, with the hierarchy needing to chase the Dane over a move for a big-money talent.

How Harder compares to Kolo Muani

PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani has been a name constantly touted with a move to join United this month, but the Old Trafford side face serious competition from the likes of Juventus and Spurs for his signature.

The Frenchman, who cost the Parisians £76m in the summer of 2023, has only started two Ligue 1 outings during the ongoing campaign, opening the door for a potential exit.

Amorim’s side have constantly been linked, but given the recent rumours over a move for youngster Harder, the club should put their focus into a move for the Sporting ace, who would be a better fit, whilst also having the potential to improve further.

The Danish international, who’s already been dubbed “the new Gyokeres” by one analyst, has outscored the PSG man, whilst also averaging a higher goal per shot on target rate – demonstrating his clinical edge in the final third.

Harder has also managed more progressive carries and passes per 90 in 2024/25, having the all-round attributes to star as a superb leading talisman for Amorim for many years to come.

£30m may seem like a hefty sum for a player who’s in the very early stages of his professional career, but his talent is there for all to see, already outperforming one of France’s leading attackers.

It would be a shrewd investment for the present and the future, handing the new boss with all of the tools to build on his impressive start to life as manager in Manchester.
