Ten Hag was given the backing of the United board during the summer, but the team looks just as bad as they did in the 2023/24 campaign. That has meant speculation over Ten Hag’s future hasn’t gone away all season, and David Ornstein reported on Monday morning that the decision has now been made, with the Red Devils confirming the departure very quickly after.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over in the interim, but there have been a few names linked to the potential vacancy at Old Trafford already. Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorin is one name that is on the club’s managerial radar. He has been very impressive in Portugal and is someone who is said to be under consideration after coming close to getting the Liverpool job in the summer.

Former Barcelona manager Xavi has also emerged as a possible replacement for Ten Hag in the last week or so.

The Spaniard, who is currently out of work, is said to have held a meeting with United’s hierarchy led by Omar Berrada. Both Amorim and Xavi are exciting options for the Red Devils, but they are not the only managers being considered, as someone who has been linked with the role before is now emerging back on United’s radar.

According to TBR Football, Manchester United have Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann under consideration after parting ways with Ten Hag. The report states that United have already been talking to potential successors in recent weeks.

The report states that the feeling of when Ten Hag leaves Old Trafford was “when” rather than “if,” and so they had got a head start on looking at potential replacements.

United have spoken to three candidates as they are not looking to use Van Nistelrooy a long-term interim appointment, so they want a new permanent manager to come in and replace Ten Hag quickly.

claims that as United are reportedly listening to offers for academy stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, coupled with their pre-tax loss quadrupling to £131 million ($160m) last season, they need to tread carefully in terms of PSR.

Moreover, Chelsea's combined pre-tax losses over the past two years are now at £211m ($257.5m), but selling academy products Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, and Ian Maatsen for more than £100m ($122m) has eased the pressure on the Blues. They are not in the clear, however.

After coming off injured against Manchester City last weekend, the 25-year-old took to social media to say how "devastated" he was at this new blow. Mount came back from a hamstring problem earlier this season but will now spend "several weeks" out injured, said United head coach Ruben Amorim. While this is not a serious injury, these setbacks can really knock a player's confidence. Many will hope Mount and James are back playing soon, though.

This has resulted in Conor Gallagher's move to Atletico stalling, as the La Liga side were seemingly going to reinvest the cash received for Omorodion to seal a deal for the England midfielder.

As such, despite his medical being completed and documentation finalised, Gallagher has been forced to fly back to London, as he waits for Chelsea to find a solution and reopen the door for his switch to Spain.

“The Conor Gallagher situation at Chelsea remains one of the biggest sagas of the summer transfer window," said Romano in a Chelsea update on Gallagher to CaughtOffside.

“The player is back in London and is now back at Cobham to train today, but not with the Chelsea first-team squad as he’s not considered an important player or regular starter under manager Enzo Maresca. So, after everything was done, contracts ready, medical okay with Atletico Madrid, the two clubs have still not signed the contracts because of what happened with Samu Omorodion.

The player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is apparently in England right now – attempting to get his £51 million client a move to Stamford Bridge (Fabrizio Romano).

Reporter Graeme Bailey, speaking to Chelsea News this week, says Mendes is "working very hard" to seal a transfer to Chelsea on Felix's behalf, so it is pretty clear at this point that the ex-Barcelona and Benfica sensation wants to sign for Maresca.

“I think there is a belief that Felix to Chelsea might get done," said Bailey.

"Jorge Mendes is working very hard on that deal. There is a belief that will happen.”

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  After months of waiting, FIFA has landed a broadcast partner for Club World Cup, announcing Wednesday a distribution deal with DAZN. In a landmark agreement, all 63 matches will be made available for free for fans around the globe on the streaming platform.

  The pact is reportedly for $1 billion for the tournament, which will kick off its first match in Miami on June 15.

  DAZN, which is not widely watched in the U.S. compared to Europe and other parts of the world, has the option to sub-license to local free-to-air broadcasters as part of its deal with FIFA.

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  FIFA's ambitious plans for the Club World Cup hasn't always been met with equal anticipation or excitement. The governing body struggled to find a broadcast partner, despite having top line headliners in Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Miami.

  The tournament has also been a source of consternation for players, who have voice concerns of heavy match load and fatigue.

  Still, the tournament will be another litmus test for the 2026 World Cup as the tournament will be held in several World Cup venues and several A-list teams will be involved among the 32 sides in the tournament, along side several teams in CONCACAF – including Miami, Seattle Sounders, Monterrey among others.

Chelsea secured their first win of pre-season in the early hours of this morning, beating Mexican side CF America 3-0 in the USA.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke settled the game for Enzo Maresca’s side – who won his first game in charge at the third attempt after a draw and a defeat against Wrexham and Celtic, respectively.

The Blues claimed the win without midfielder Conor Gallagher, who appears to be edging ever closer to a move to join Spanish side Atlético Madrid after journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed he had rejected a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

The potential deal could see the Blues secure a £34m transfer fee for the 24-year-old who came through the academy after joining the club at the age of eight.

However, they already have a ready-made replacement for the English international, after his excellent display for the Blues in the pre-season during the early hours of the morning.

Roméo Lavia’s stats against CF America

After joining Chelsea from Southampton for £58m last summer, midfielder Roméo Lavia endured an awful run of injuries during his debut season in west London, making just one appearance – featuring for a total of 32 minutes.

However, he’s recently been on the comeback trail, working his way towards a first-team return, potentially having the impact of a new signing given his lack of minutes last season.

His display on Thursday morning demonstrated the quality he possesses, potentially having a huge impact at Stamford Bridge during the 2024/25 campaign.

He also made a key contribution in attacking areas, winning a penalty before Frenchman Nkunku stepped up to score his third goal of pre-season for the Blues.

Lavia excelled defensively, winning two tackles and five duels during his hour performance – staking his claim for a regular first-team spot under Maresca this season.

He was subsequently handed a 7.5/10 match rating by journalist Bobby Vincent – with Ben Jacobs stating that the former Southampton looked “sharp” during his first outing during the tour of the US.

His display will have Chelsea fans a reason to be positive, with the youngster finally able to hit the ground running after a torrid time on the sidelines, also allowing them to forget about Gallagher should he move to Spain this summer.

Why Lavia could allow Maresca to forget about Gallagher

After the news of Gallagher’s contract rejection, it’s clear he wants a new start away from his boyhood club, with a move to Atléti expected to be completed in the next few days.

He was a crucial player under former boss Mauricio Pochettino last season, featuring in 37 of the 38 Premier League matches, registering 12 goal contributions in the process.

The Englishman would leave a huge hole in the Chelsea midfield, but Lavia’s display against CF America could allow for an easy transition between the two players at the heart of Maresca’s squad.

He’s previously shown his ability to thrive in the Premier League, as demonstrated during his time on the South Coast with Southampton – featuring 29 times in the 2022/23 season, which prompted the Blues’ desire to spend big on the Belgian.

Although it’s only a pre-season clash, he’s shown he has the quality to slot straight into the Chelsea midfield, preventing the club from spending big once more on another talent to bolster the squad.

Lavia has the ability to give Chelsea the advantage in their hunt for a Champions League place – whilst allowing him to develop his game further and prove why the club paid £58m for his services.

Pepi's early goal proved enough for U.S. to escape with win over Jamaica in first leg of CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals

It wasn't pretty. It never was going to be. Given the field conditions, the location, the stakes, this was always going to be a classic grind-it-out scenario. First legs of quarterfinals always are but, hey, first legs are also about results, right?

The U.S. men's national team got their result they needed on Thursday night in Kingston. An early goal from Ricardo Pepi was ultimately enough to escape with a 1-0 win over Jamaica in a feisty first leg of the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals. Barely enough, mind you, but enough.

Pepi's goal came just 5 minutes into the match, allowing the USMNT to breathe just a little bit. Played in by Christian Pulsiic, Pepi made no mistake, offering more evidence to show that he should be starting more for club and country. It was Pepi's 12th goal before the age of 22 for the USMNT, tied with Jozy Altidore and behind only Landon Donovan (15) and Pulisic (14) on the team's all-time list.

"The team showed out, we're here to fight," Pepi said. "We knew it was going to be difficult but at the end of the day, we got the result and now it is time to take care of it at home."

Breathing room or not, the U.S. was never in position to cruise, as Jamaica had their moments.

The biggest came in the first half, in the 14th minute, when the U.S. defense collapsed to concede a poor penalty. USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner was called for the penalty on Shamar Nicholson in the box, but then got instant redemption, stepping up and parrying away Demarai Gray's shot to keep the Reggae Boyz off the board. It was one of just two saves for Turner, who also brushed away an Olimpico in the second half. Both of those saves were huge, to put it lightly.

Those saves protected the USMNT lead, allowing them to head back to St. Louis for leg two on Monday night with a one-goal lead over Jamaica. Heading home with that advantage is huge, and anyone who follows CONCACAF knows just how hard it is to get results like this consistently away from home.

Since dropping a 2-1 friendly in Washington, D.C. in 2019, the USMNT have are now on an eight-game unbeaten streak vs. Jamaica. The  challenged the USMNT deep into the semifinals of the 2023-24 Nations League before a brace from Wright powered the U.S. to the tournament final. The U.S. went on to score another Dos a Cero victory over Mexico for its third-straight title.

For this night, job is done – well, at least the first half of it. The U.S. will need a draw or win on Monday to move on to the semifinals in the spring of 2025. This wasn't pretty but that'll be just fine for USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has his team one step closer to where they need to be.

  Matt Turner (8/10):

  Gave away a penalty, then swatted it away. That penalty-kick save was a huge moment for a player who certainly could use one given his lack of minutes on the club level. His second-half save on an Olimpico attempt was very good, too.

  Antoene Robinson (7/10):

  Did his usual thing on that left-hand side. No massive moment but, in a game like this, there really wasn't one needed.

  Tim Ream (6/10):

  Struggled with Shamar Nicholson on the penalty sequence. Was largely OK afterwards, but did have a few tough moments against Jamaica's attack.

  Mark McKenzie (6/10):

  Needed to do much, much better in the seconds leading up to the penalty and had a nervy moment or two after. Settled in more as the game went on, though.

  Joe Scally (6/10):

  Had the one bad giveaway in the first half that led to, you guessed it – that penalty, showing how much of a combined effort that mess was. Generally did well against Jamaica's wingers, which is never easy.

  Tanner Tessmann (7/10):

  Had some tough moments early, but really grew into the game. Completed nearly all of his passes and generally won his duels in midfield. Job well done.

  Johnny Cardoso (6/10):

  Actually looked good in his 19 minutes. Unfortunately, that was all we saw, as Cardoso had another USMNT chance derailed by injury. It's unfortunate, too, because it seemed like he was on the way to what could have been a statement performance.

  Weston McKennie (7/10):

  Played much higher up the field than usual and certainly seemed up for it. If anything, there were moments where the game could have opened up if he pushed even further. A good first showing for him under the new coach.

ويأتي هذا اللقاء بعد أن ضمن نادي بيراميدز تأهله رسميًا إلى الدور ربع النهائي من دوري أبطال إفريقيا، وذلك عقب فوزه على ساجرادا الأنجولي بهدف نظيف، ليُصبح رصيده 10 نقاط في ترتيب المجموعة.

ويقع بيراميدز في المجموعة الرابعة إلى جانب الترجي التونسي وساجرادا الأنجولي ودجوليبا المالي.

ويعتبر بيراميدز هو ثاني ممثلي الكرة المصرية في بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا هذا الموسم، بجوار الأهلي حامل لقب النسخة الماضية. موعد مباراة بيراميدز ودجوليبا في دوري أبطال إفريقيا
