Their best CF since Kane: Paratici wants Spurs to sign £87m "freak of nature"

Throughout multiple generations, Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been blessed with the opportunity to witness numerous elite-level attackers in North London.

Gareth Bale is just one example of a first-team member who has captured the hearts of the fanbase as a result of his ability to impress within the final third.

The Welshman became infamous for his right-sided role, which often saw him glide past the opposition before finding the top corner after cutting inside onto his favoured left foot.

However, current boss Thomas Frank doesn’t quite have that luxury at present, that’s despite the hierarchy backing the Dane with over £100m worth of transfers in his first window.

That could be about to change in the coming months, as returning Sporting Director Fabio Paratici looks to recruit numerous new attackers to bolster the club’s Premier League standing.

Spurs’ hunt for new attacking talent in January

Over the last couple of weeks, Spurs have been strongly linked with a move to land Bournemouth sensation Antoine Semenyo after his impressive start to the campaign.

The Ghanaian has scored six times and registered three assists to date, with the Lilywhites reported with a potential attempt to land the 25-year-old in the winter window.

However, the Cherries star isn’t the only star on their radar, with TBR Football claiming that Paratici is extremely keen on a move for Porto talisman Samu Aghehowa in the near future.

The report states that the Sporting Director is a huge admirer of the 21-year-old attacker who has scored 35 times in his 54 appearances for the Portuguese outfit.

It also claims that the Spaniard has an £87m release clause within his current deal, but he could be available at a cut-price given his current employers’ financial situation.

Why Samu could be Spurs' best forward since Kane

Just like Bale, Harry Kane is another player who has forever put himself in Spurs history as a result of his performances over a sustained period in North London.

The England international made himself the best-ever forward in the Lilywhites’ history, scoring a staggering 280 goals during his decade at the club – the most of any player in history.

However, the club’s lack of tangible success on the field saw the 32-year-old depart to join Bayern Munich in an £82m transfer back in the summer of 2023.

Kane’s departure has left a huge hole in the attack, with Frank subsequently having to rely on forwards such as Richarlison and Dominic Solanke after taking the reins.

The Brazilian has only netted three times in 2025/26, whilst the latter of the duo has been restricted to just 31 minutes of league action this season due to a recurring ankle issue.

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke

However, Frank could be blessed by the addition of Samu, with the Spaniard having all the tools to make himself the club’s next big-name talisman – potentially taking the first-team to new heights.

When comparing the Porto star’s stats with those of Kane from the current season, he’s managed to better the former Lilywhites man in numerous key attacking departments.

Samu, who’s been dubbed a “freak of nature” by one analyst, has posted a better shot on target accuracy rate, which has seen him take advantage of more chances that have been handed his way.

He’s also completed more short passes to date, whilst also winning more of the aerial battles he’s entered – numbers which make him the perfect hold-up striker.

However, the 21-year-old is also more than capable of driving past the opposition himself, as seen by his 50% take-on success rate – a tally that is higher than what Kane has been able to muster.

Such numbers highlight the all-round quality the Porto star possesses at present, but he’s only going to get better as he continues his development in the professional game.

Should he make the move to North London, he would have huge expectations placed upon him – mainly due to the levels achieved by Kane during his own stint at the club.

However, Samu has already showcased he’s able to create carnage for the opposition, with Paratici needing to work tirelessly to land the Spaniard’s signature in the coming months.

Kylian Mbappe hails Vinicius Jr partnership as 'even better' this season as Real Madrid forward targets title success with Brazil star

Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior have taken their partnership to the next level this season, with the French forward insisting their chemistry is "much better this year". Mbappe dismissed claims in the media of issues with the Brazil star, who has been dropped to the bench by coach Xabi Alonso on occasion this season while the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man shines up front.

  • Mbappe and Vini Jr's improved chemistry

Since Mbappe joined Madrid, he and Vinicius have developed a strong, positive relationship. However, Vinicius' form has dipped somewhat and he has lost his guaranteed starting position under new coach Alonso. Despite this, both players continue to support each other and connect well in attack, aiming to push Madrid to success together. Mbappe claims the relationship is "much better this year", calling Vinicius "a great player and a good person," and emphasising their shared goal to help Madrid win titles by being at their best.

This improved chemistry is already visible on the field, with the duo scoring in the same La Liga match three times this season, already close to matching last season’s total from 26 matches. Their recent performance against Villarreal highlighted their synergy, as Vinicius scored twice and Mbappe showed strong support, even allowing the Brazilian to take a penalty.

Mbappe says he and Vinicius share the same goal

Asked about what has changed this year, the French forward explains how he now understands his teammate better and the two have formed a great relationship over the year.

"I have a very good relationship with Vinicius. It's much better this year because we know each other much better. He's a great player and a good person. We know people are going to talk about us, but we have the same goal, which is to help Real Madrid win titles. If we want to win titles, we both have to be at our best," Mbappe said in an interview with

While Mbappe leads the frontline with 14 goals already this season, Vinicius also has made nine goal contributions so far.

  • Off-field turbulence between the two Madrid stars?

Vinicius' reluctance to extend his contract with Madrid has fuelled growing rumours, especially as he faces more rotation under Alonso. Reports suggest that the Brazilian desires to become the club's highest-paid player, surpassing even Mbappe, which has added to the speculation. Despite this off-field turbulence and media frenzy, Mbappe has publicly dismissed any notion of conflict between them. He blamed the media for sensationalising their relationship stating: "Two famous players on the same team sell a lot of paper, they sell a lot of things."

How will Alonso navigate Madrid's next matches?

Madrid's upcoming schedule for the 2025-26 season includes some crucial matches against top opponents such as Getafe, Juventus, Barcelona, Valencia, and Liverpool. New Rogers: Aston Villa open first talks to sign "exceptional" £30m PL star

Aston Villa kicked off the brand new Premier League season with a 0-0 stalemate against Newcastle United.

While that, of course, isn’t exactly the most exhilarating introduction back to top-flight life, Unai Emery’s Villans would come away from the opening day contest the happier of the two sides with the drab final result, having been reduced to ten men for the final 24 minutes after Ezri Konsa was dismissed.

Still, even despite that result, the Villans must kick on in the weeks to come in order to turn results like this one into a win.

Aston Villa make enquiry to sign £25m star

Villa haven’t been the flashiest side in the chaotic window to date, with just three incomings through the door.

New goalkeeper recruit Marco Bizot was handed his Villans debut against the Magpies and rose to the occasion with a clean sheet. At the same time, the West Midlands outfit’s most luxurious purchase of the summer – who joined for a hefty £30m – so far in Evan Guessand remained rooted to the bench throughout.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The cash could soon be splashed in a similarly lavish manner if reports are to be believed, with Caught Offside revealing that Emery and Co. have now enquired over signing Manchester City defender Rico Lewis.

It will be difficult for Villa to get a move over the line, however, with Nottingham Forest allegedly also in talks with the exciting 20-year-old, with the Tricky Trees bidding in the region of £30m recently for the City number 82.

Moreover, further interest in Lewis’ services comes from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur, with those named also lodging their own enquiries.

How Lewis can be Emery's next Rogers

Villa will keep their fingers crossed that they can race to the front of this ever-extending queue in the hope that they will be able to land a Morgan Rogers repeat if the two-time Premier League winner swaps the Etihad for Villa Park.

Before Rogers established himself as a top-flight “machine” donning claret and blue – as he was dubbed by The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell – the England international did find himself in the same boat as Lewis in Manchester.

Unfortunately for the £100m-rated star, he would never go on to make the first-team breakthrough on the books of the Citizens, with countless loan spells greeting him, before he was officially let go of by Pep Guardiola’s men in 2023.

Morgan Rogers graphic

This must surely be a regret on the end of the early table-toppers, though, with Rogers going on to flex his muscles in some style in the West Midlands, as 17 goals and 17 assists have come his way from 79 appearances and counting.

Lewis would love for this same first-team spotlight to come down on him if he were to embark on a new challenge at Villa Park, having only started 40 of his 59 Premier League games to date at his boyhood employers, despite largely impressing when thrust into the senior mix.

He certainly stood out against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out as City brushed off any off-season cobwebs to trounce the Old Gold 4-0 at Molineux, with Lewis getting in on the act himself when teeing up Erling Haaland for the crucial opening strike.

The lively 20-year-old was lauded as “magical” by City journalist Amos Murphy during the game, with his blistering ability to bomb forward and create openings, further putting him on the same pedestal as Rogers.

With experience of the Champions League also under his belt, Emery would be very confident in gifting Lewis plenty of first-team opportunities on his arrival, much like the Spaniard showed no hesitancy in immediately handing Rogers the senior reins last year.

This will be a testing deal to seal, but if Villa want to make more waves this summer, they should go all out to land Lewis, who has also been labelled as “exceptional” by Guardiola for his standout, bit-part offerings at his hometown side.

McCullum: Buttler's successor will need 'right support' to lead rennaissance

England coach suggests white-ball captain suffered from formats not being prioritised

Danyal Rasool28-Feb-20255:09

Who will England’s next white-ball captain be?

Sat alongside his departing captain Jos Buttler, perhaps it was telling the first emotion England coach Brendon McCullum voiced was sadness rather than pride. As Buttler announced he was quitting as England’s white-ball captain, expressing his own disappointment at the way events had panned out, McCullum’s initial reaction was to offer sympathy for Buttler and how much he had invested into a role that hasn’t quite worked out.McCullum suggested that was down to the circumstances Buttler had to lead his side in, rather than any shortcomings in his captaincy itself. Even as England struggled in white-ball ICC events since winning the 2022 T20I World Cup, Buttler often found himself leading sides on bilateral tours that weren’t close to full strength. On an ODI and T20I tour of West Indies late last year, sandwiched between Test series against Pakistan and New Zealand, none of England’s all-format players were part of the squad. Against Australia in September, Joe Root was rested after a busy Test season, while a number of players, including Root and Mark Wood, sat home while England toured West Indies at the tail-end of 2023. England lost all three ODI series.Related

Decline and fall: England face up to scale of ODI rebuilding job

McCullum appeared to allude to those circumstances as he spoke of England’s next white-ball captain, and his desire to avoid putting him in similarly unenviable circumstances. “That’s something Keysy [Rob Key] and myself and the ECB are trying to ensure, that we give every format the most amount of attention that we possibly can,” he said. “It’s a tricky balancing act at times.”McCullum has been Test coach since 2022, and had his pick of players for that format. But with all three formats now falling under his stewardship, he hinted that full availability for Test cricket may no longer be as set in stone in future.”Looking back even on these most recent series, you’d argue that you could rest some players for some Test series and try and balance things out across formats,” he said. “Give us a couple of weeks to work things out and digest what’s unfolded here, work out what areas we’ve been short in and done okay in, work out the structure of how we want to do things moving forward. We’ve got a couple of months before our next assignment, so there is a bit of time to work that out.”McCullum kept returning to the theme of Buttler’s captaincy, and how he felt it would be remembered more kindly than raw results might suggest. He said Buttler had set a solid foundation for his replacement, comparing it to the health of the England Test side following Joe Root’s resignation as Test captain in 2022 after a series of indifferent results.2:16

McCullum: England fans deserve to see better results

“I said to the boys tonight in the team room sometimes it’s not necessarily the time that you’re in the post and the results that you get during that time. The impact you have in leadership positions can be felt after you left the post, and I’m sure that’ll be the case. I think Joe Root was a classic example of that with the Test captaincy. He was able to at least hold the fort to a degree under incredibly trying circumstances, and then the uplift of performance when Stokesy [Ben Stokes] took over sort of followed from that, and hopefully it’ll be the same across the white-ball teams whenever we decide on who that person is going to be.”The ECB had hoped linking up Buttler with McCullum, two preternaturally attacking white-ball players, would help unleash England’s white-ball potential in the way managed by Eoin Morgan following the 2015 World Cup. However, with results spiralling, England and McCullum have been criticised for what has come to be seen as a simplistic approach, not necessarily suited to the skillsets of the specific players England’s white-ball sides have at their disposal.McCullum pushed back against that notion firmly, pointing out the close margins England had missed out by this tournament. “We’ve had our opportunities and played some okay cricket,” he said, “and both games we could have won, and then we’re sitting here and talking about something slightly different. I genuinely believe we’ve got immense talent in English cricket across all forms.”If anything, we are lacking confidence. There’s a perception out there that we’re a happy-go-lucky, arrogant type of team. We couldn’t be further from that. These guys are too hard on themselves, they’ve got immense talent they are desperate … to perform. That’s actually stymying the ability of us to get the performance we want. They care too much. That’s not a bad thing. They’re just desperate to perform and do right by all those who support the team, and support them. Until we get to the stage where we’re able to still handle walking out there and playing, without wearing disappointment so heavily, then we’re always going to stymie ourselves. That’s our job over the next little while.”While Harry Brook is the favourite to succeed Buttler, McCullum said England had not decided on a successor. While that is partly because, in McCullum’s words, Buttler’s resignation “came a little sooner than expected”, he felt it also spoke to the characters in the England side.”There’s some really good leaders that have developed,” McCullum said. “That’s the mark of Jos’s captaincy, he brought on other leaders within the group. They’re not necessarily seasoned players, but they are young guys who have got good cricketing knowledge and he’s encouraged them to learn and develop as leaders. Whoever we settle on, we’ve just got to make sure we’re giving them the right support so that we can improve our performances.”

Not just Sesko: Man Utd also contact agent of "unbelievable" £68m attacker

Manchester United have now made contact with the agent of an “unbelievable” attacker, who could be in line to join alongside RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, according to a report.

Man Utd identify Sesko as major target with striker pursuit heating up

With the Premier League season set to get underway in just over two weeks, it is becoming increasingly important for Man United to get a deal for a new striker over the line, and they have now identified two major targets.

Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins is one of the names on the shortlist, with the 29-year-old being joined by Sesko, and Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed United have now presented an offer to the Slovenian’s entourage.

Ruben Amorim has been particularly keen to bolster his attacking options this summer, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha already arriving at Old Trafford, and contact has now been made over a new attacking midfielder.

That is according to a report from Caught Offside, which states Man United have now approached the agents of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but there could be fierce competition for the attacker’s signature.

Crystal Palace's EberechiEzecelebrates with the trophy after winning the FA Cup

Manchester City have also made contact over a potential deal, and Bayern Munich are seriously considering a move, however, Arsenal are currently thought to be leading the race for his signature.

Man Utd submit £34m bid to sign "intelligent" ace who Amorim knows well

Man United have now made an opening offer…

1 ByBrett Worthington Jul 29, 2025

United will need to spend big if they are to stand any chance of securing Eze’s signature, given that he is protected by a £68m release clause, which Arsenal are willing to pay in installments.

"Unbelievable" Eze would be statement signing for Man Utd

Signing Cunha and Mbeumo without European football on offer is a testament to United’s pulling power, but it would be a major coup if they were able to sign the Palace star, considering he is wanted by a number of top clubs.

A deal seems unlikely, but if United were to win the race, there is every sign the England international would be a fantastic addition to Amorim’s squad, having picked up eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League last term.

That said, Man United are well-known to have PSR concerns, and a deal for Eze would break the bank, meaning they should prioritise the addition of a new striker instead.

Sesko and Watkins could both be exciting signings, but the Villa star is already Premier League proven, which is a bonus, and he outscored the RB Leipzig striker in the league last season, while also providing more assists.

Worth more than Gibbs-White: Spurs have struck gold on "unbelievable" star

Tottenham Hotspur’s business in the transfer market over the last couple of years has been seriously impressive, helping the club end the 17-year wait for any form of silverware.

Attention has been turned to investing in younger talents, buying them at bargain prices and allowing them to develop and improve to reach their full potential in North London.

The likes of Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall are just two examples, with the pair featuring in a combined tally of 100 outings between them despite their tender ages.

Both have shown the rewards their current recruitment focus could yield if done correctly, with Thomas Frank needing to continue such a trend ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

However, they’ve also spent big in the past, as seen by Mohammed Kudus’ £55m transfer from West Ham United this window, with other big-money additions also being lined up.

The latest on Spurs’ hunt for Morgan Gibbs-White

Two weeks ago, Spurs triggered the £60m release clause in Morgan Gibbs-White’s contract at Nottingham Forest, with a deal expected to progress after such a move.

However, that switch swiftly ground to a halt after Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis raised an issue with the transfer, claiming that the Lilywhites made an illegal approach for his signature.

Morgan Gibbs-White 2024-25 stats (timeless)

No one even knew that the England international had an option in his current deal, entering talks with the player and his agent without the approval of his current employers.

It had subsequently been reported that the 25-year-old remained keen on a move to North London this summer, although the latest developments appear to suggest otherwise.

Having travelled with the Forest squad on their pre-season tour of Portugal, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man has since quashed any speculation after penning a new deal with the Tricky Trees.

The playmaker has committed his future to City Ground until 2028, with journalist Fabrizio Romano outlining that a move to Spurs is now “off”.

The Spurs player who’s already worth more than Gibbs-White

With Gibbs-White undoubtedly one of the hierarchy’s main targets this summer, other options will likely be drawn up as a result of his decision to stay put in Nottingham.

Morgan Gibbs-White for Nottingham Forest.

However, trust should be placed in the recruitment team to make the right call, something which they’ve done as seen by their recent success rate in the market.

As previously mentioned, with the likes of Bergvall and Sarr, the club have got it right in previous times, just like they have with winger Brennan Johnson, who’s excelled at the club in recent months.

The Welsh international arrived in a £47.5m deal from Forest back in the summer of 2023, with such a price tag appearing a huge chunk given he’d only had one prior year of top-flight experience.

However, a couple of years on from his transfer, it appears to be a shrewd piece of business, racking up a total of 23 goals within his 85 appearances for the club.

18 of which came in the most recent campaign, subsequently proving all of his doubters wrong after he was forced to deactivate his social media accounts following abuse from supporters for his lack of impact.

The 24-year-old is also responsible for one of the biggest moments in the club’s recent history, scoring the winner in the Europa League final – topping off a dream campaign for the youngster.

As a result of his rise in the last few months, Johnson, who’s been labelled “unbelievable” by international teammate Aaron Ramsey, is now valued at a staggering €75m (£66m) by CIES Football Observatory.

His subsequent value is higher than that of Gibbs-White, who’s deemed to be worth £60m due to his release clause, showcasing the phenomenal rise he’s endured during his time at the Lilywhites.

Dream Gueye replacement: Moyes pushing Everton to sign £17m "big game" star

Everton need to sort out some of their players’ contract situations before it is too late. The Toffees could lose four experienced figures at the end of the month when their contracts expire, according to the Liverpool Echo. Seamus Coleman, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin could all leave on a free.

The report says Gueye and Coleman have both ‘been offered the chance to extend their stays’ at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, although it is unclear what their decision will be. It would certainly be a loss for both to leave, given the experience they provide to David Moyes’ side.

Indeed, if Gueye was to depart the club this summer, the Toffees could already be lining up his perfect replacement.

Everton's Gueye replacement

It will certainly be hard for Everton to replace Gueye this summer. He is a player with bags of experience and is a key figure for Moyes in the middle of midfield. They certainly need to replace him with someone who adds that know-how.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Well, perhaps Everton’s latest midfield target, Fenerbahce star Fred, is the man who can do just that.

According to a report from Turkish outlet Fanatik, the former Manchester United star is a key target for the Toffees. They explain that ‘Moyes wants to see the Brazilian star as one of the key names in the midfield’ in 2025/26.

However, Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho ‘will not give up easily’ when it comes to keeping Fred at the club.

They are reportedly set to ask for £17m to let the midfielder go this summer, although the 32-year-old ‘continues to insist on transferring’, which looks positive for Everton.

Why Fred would be a good signing

Fred’s game has certainly evolved in the last few years, and his time in Turkey seems to sum that up. A genuine box-to-box midfielder, he is someone involved in all phases of the game, and can make an impact in any third.

Last season for Fenerbahce, Fred played 45 games, contributing five goals and eight assists, highlighting the impact he has in attack. In the top flight of Turkey, the Brazil international contributed to 11 goals in just 31 appearances.

Of course, let’s not forget the contributions he made in a Man United shirt. A key part of the Red Devils’ midfield for a number of years, Fred played 213 times, scoring 14 times and grabbing 19 assists. 22 of those 33 goal involvements came in his final two seasons at Old Trafford, further highlighting that more advanced role he now plays.

The 2025/26 campaign is a huge one for those on the Blue side of Merseyside. They are moving into the Hill Dickinson Stadium and will be looking to build on the momentum gathered under Moyes last season.

Well, Fred could be the perfect player to help guide them through these huge months. Described as a “big-game player” by Statman Dave, he is prone to stepping up in those big moments. Take this strike for United in the Europa League back in 2022/23 against Barcelona, during a game in which his side were behind.

The Brazilian would be a key replacement for Gueye next term, if he were to leave. The Senegal international played 37 times in the Premier League, featuring in every single one of Moyes’ games in charge.

He provides experience and a sense of calm at the base of the midfield in that famous Blue shirt, although he does play a slightly different role to Fred. Gueye tends to sit at the base of Everton’s midfield. Last season, he made the most tackles in the top flight, with 133.

Yet, the numbers via FBref from Fred’s most recent Premier League season, compared to Gueye’s stats from this term, are not too dissimilar. For example, the Brazilian averaged 4.75 tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes compared to the Everton star’s 5.32 each game.

Losing the experience and guile of Gueye in midfield would certainly be a blow to Moyes, but Fred could be an apt replacement. The Brazilian is versatile and can sit a bit deeper to help screen the back four, or can operate in advanced areas to a great degree of success.

Adding experience and Premier League quality for a fee of £17m seems like a good deal for the Toffees. Fred could well be the dream Gueye replacement if he departs this summer.
